Recclesia fabricates and installs stainless steel, powder-coated protective guards and make new non-ferrous metalwork glazing systems, including isothermal glazing frames for conservation of stained glass. This is all carried out in-house. Where appropriate we also fabricate and install vented secondary glazing in high-grade polycarbonate sheet or glass. All of our protection systems are installed using non-ferrous fixings and allow for minimum impact upon the existing fabric of the building and have been used at churches, castles and listed buildings.
Recclesia Guards have been designed specifically for use on listed and ecclesiastical buildings. The design of the guards follows guidelines set down by the CVMA, the Institute of Conservation, English Heritage, Cadw, Historic Scotland, the Diocesan Advisory Committee and other building conservation advisory groups.
Isothermal Glazing
The Isothermal Glazing System for conservation of stained glass is also available from Recclesia. We use U-section bronze to fabricate the frames and stainless steel fixings. The external glazing can be plain glass, or leaded glass which follows the principal lead lines of the existing stained glass. This system is used where stained glass windows require the best conservation care available and is widely accepted as the best way to improve the environmental conditions in which the windows reside.
Protective Glazing
Protective glazing, in the right situation, can be a very effective way of protecting windows from either severe weather or severe vandal damage. However, the aesthetic impact of such intrusive alterations to church buildings and listed buildings means that great care must be taken in applying this solution to your building. Recclesia installs very handsome protective glazing using either glass or high-grade polycarbonate sheet onto good quality stainless steel D-profile fixings.
Metalwork
Recclesia restores all types of metal windows, casements and architectural metalwork. Often, we restore window frames in conjunction with leaded light restoration, but we also undertake independent metalwork contracts too. Also see our page about Protective Guards.
Our advanced metalwork specialists also fabricate new casements, including copying traditional windows. We have particular experience in re-creating opening hopper-style windows for church buildings in stainless steel, and in fabricating new ferramenta.
Recclesia also undertakes to restore most architectural metalwork such as weathervanes, ironmongery, ventillation panels, cast iron rainwater goods and traditional iron signage. We employ traditional techniques hand in hand with modern processes.
