Acton Burnell Hall
Project
The conservation and repair of the East Window of the former Private Chapel
Client: Concorde College| Completed: 2009
Techniques:
Both the leadwork and the paintwork were suffering from serious problems. The lead had failed across all three lancets and tracery and the glass had suffered a quite serious loss of its paintwork thanks to a combination of poorly fired pigments and historic damage due to condensation. The entire window had to be re-leaded, and extensive paint consolidation work was carried out to the glass to stabilise the remaining pigment. Where images and text had been lost altogether a plating technique was employed in some key areas, thereby returning the window to a legibile state, but also retaining all of the original fabric.
