Recclesia - The Clive Engine House

3rd January 2012

The start of 2012 marks the start of a facinating contract for Recclesia at one of only a handful of remaining lead mining engine houses in Wales. The Grade II* Listed Clive Engine House in Dyserth, North Wales, is set to undergo a phase of restoration which will see it carefully conserved and partially restored thanks to a new source of built heritage funding from WREN, Cadw and Denbighshire County Council.

Conservation architects Donald Insall Associates have drawn up a scheme of works which will see the roof structure reinstated, structural consolidation work and masonry repairs to the building which housed a large steam engine which powered the operations of the lead and zinc mines which are recorded on the site as early as 1303.

One of the aims of the project is to ensure that the building is opened up to the local community and that the story of the historically significant site can be made more widely accessible.

Recclesia Managing Director Jamie Moore was very enthusiatic about the project, which will see many of the company's in-house skills put to use. "Having grown up nearby this building, the project is one of great personal interest and I am extremely pleased that our company was chosen to carry out the work."

It is anticipated that the work will be complete in April 2012.
